Nosso crush of 2019 #semestre2? Nova Zelândia : Vulcão entra em erupção repentina. Turistas apanhados.

Describing nature’s decline as unprecedented and citing among many indicators, 1,000,000 species threatened with extinction, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) laid bare the threats to all life on earth in its Global Assessment Report, released at UNESCO headquarters, the 6 May, 2019.

The bushfires in Australia have destroyed much of the habitat for the island’s wildlife, including koalas, kangaroos and rare birds

Up to 30% of koalas on New South Wales's mid-north coast may have been killed and many more may be endangered in South Australia in the country’s ongoing bushfire crisis after experts warned fires are the biggest threat Australian wildlife faces.

Lindo! O vídeo tornou-se viral. Uma história de Natal, verdadeira.

There are days in a Canadian winter – when the temperature drops well below freezing and the snow hasn’t yet fallen – that transform any body of freshwater into a glass-like sheet of ice.
But what can bring joy to an adventurous human can prove a nightmare for some wild animals.
Footage of an Ontario man rescuing a family of deer stranded on the ice has been shared thousands of times after the video was posted online.
Eager to take advantage of a cold snap, Ryan Peterson laced up his skates on a recent lunch break. Gliding across Lake of the Woods in northern Ontario, Peterson spotted a trio of white tail deer, hopelessly splayed on the ice. Read more here
Some true stories don't finish in tragedy. There are happy ones. This true story is beautiful. And the family of deer was rescued, happily.
It's Christmas holiday! So our blog will stop for holidays. We will be back in January 2020.

Heavy floods hit our country, Portugal, caused by the depressions Elsa e Fabien. Spain is hiten as well.

The pictures are devastating. Climate is changing. No doubt. In Australia there are big fires everywhere.

Think about local animals and ecological systems.

Nova Zelândia : Vulcão entra em erupção repentina. Turistas apanhados

Moments before one of New Zealand's most active volcanoes erupted on Monday, tourists were seen walking inside its rim.
The privately-owned White Island, or Whakaari, is a popular destination for day tours and scenic flights. It has been dubbed by some tour operators as a "living, breathing, geological giant" and "the world's most accessible active marine volcano".

The volcano is located in the Bay of Plenty, about 48km (29 miles) from the east coast of New Zealand's North Island.
White Island is "persistently active in the sense that it has a very active hydrothermal system".
Jan Lindsay, professor, University of Auckland
Rather than having lots of eruptions involving magma, she said this meant it saw periodic ash explosions and had lakes "churning over with gases".

"The spectacular thing about White Island is that there is so much gas coming out of the volcano and lots of minerals crystallising,"

Five deaths have been confirmed since the eruption. Twenty-three people were rescued but others are reported missing and police have said there is "no sign of life" on the island. Read more here

Some academics have been questioning the wisdom in allowing White Island to be a tourism destination.
Update: There are 16 death now. Rescuers continue to search for more tourists alive or not. They stopped due the risks.

Police have said they intend "absolutely to return to that island" but that it can happen only "when there are no risks and the risks can be managed".

Military recover team returned. Six bodies transferred from White Island to HMNZS Wellington by helicopter, as divers search for final two missing today, 13 December. Two remain unaccounted for.
